States

I've been on the road for the majority of this year so far, and thought it appropriate to show a small glimpse of the diversity of color and scenery that this country has to offer before delving into the whole catalog of images I've shot.

Traded one for the other.

The mind has a funny way of making connections to familiar things while you're in a new place. The top photo is near where I am living now, and the bottom image is back in California in a place I loved going to.

Lookout Mountain, Golden, Colorado.

Near White Tank Campground, Joshua Tree National Park, California.

Oops, I disappeared to Joshua Tree

The desert greeting us after arriving not long after dawn. We were running off of four hours of sleep and coffee at this point, but seeing this added a huge boost to our energy levels.

Yucca plants in full bloom near Desert Queen Mine. It is hard to describe the large scale of the blossoms on these plants.
Bigfoot's face happend to adorn this late 1800's water tower we happened upon while hiking in an area of the park that was once a ranch to the Ryan family. Truth be told, we were looking for rumored multiple graves in the area we when came across this.
A peace sign on the opposing side of the same water tower, along with a better look at said Bigfoot. What I'm bummed I didn't shoot was graffiti scratched into the metal itself that read "Respect the Earth our mother."

Last night

The Milky Way, August 13, 1:30 AM

Beautiful things happen when you go with the natural ebb and flow of life. In this case, I ended up in Joshua Tree at around midnight last night only to be greeted by an intensely clear, moonless sky; the exact condition one hopes for when going to watch a meteor shower. And man did the heavens deliver. Another night spent sleeping in the Jeep made worth it by nature.

Surfer cave art

Joshua Tree fuels my creativity, and a cave with charcoal means full-sized surfers hitting the lip are gonna happen.

The darker the secret

The harder the desert will keep it. Joshua Tree stormfront, moving in.

Making art with________.

Anything you can. These are my girlfriend's fingers after a few hours of charcoal art in a cave in Joshua Tree using the nearby ashes of a fire.

Where the Streets Have No Name

It amazes me how many people don’t know about this place. It’s one of the most inspiring places in the world. U2 has an album named after it. The Eagles coined the name “The Eagles” on peyote while camping here. The land here is littered with abandoned gold mines, and the canyons are lined with Native American petroglyphs. Some go here to get lost. Others come to find themselves.
