Useful Art

Alone and together, my girlfriend and I love to collect shells, driftwood, or any oddity that washes up on the beach and catches our eye. In the past, our backpacks and towels became bags to tote around our findings and while this worked fine, any belongings that happened to occupy the bags prior to the shells showing up would become entrenched in sand and moisture. To save our belongings (and have more room for collections) we thought that having a dedicated shore finding bag was in order. After we each had our hand at painting one side of the same canvas bag, this is what we had as our new beach findings bag.

Inspirational

I've been reading the book Music as Yoga, and today while opening to a random page I stumbled into this quote. Something about it really hits home with me as a musician and a songwriter. It's inspirational if there ever was such a thing.

Last night

The Milky Way, August 13, 1:30 AM

Beautiful things happen when you go with the natural ebb and flow of life. In this case, I ended up in Joshua Tree at around midnight last night only to be greeted by an intensely clear, moonless sky; the exact condition one hopes for when going to watch a meteor shower. And man did the heavens deliver. Another night spent sleeping in the Jeep made worth it by nature.

Creation

I'll admit it, I spend a lot of time with a camera in my hand. Almost any and every outing of mine means a chance at shooting. It's quite possible though that I spend even more time with a guitar in my hands. Especially as of lately. My girlfriend shot this photo of me playing inside of an abandoned power house hidden away in the Santa Ana river bottom one afternoon while we were out for a short hike. I rarely like photos of myself, but I'll admit that I love this photo.

Moments of inspiration

This was a key moment in my life. I had been turning over a lot in my head for the last few months, and it was in this moment that it all finally made sense. This was my “ah ha” moment.
