Welcome 2011

The journey has been made and I'm now back in California. 2010 was a year of continuous transitioning for me and I hope that 2011 brings even more opportunities to explore, document, and enjoy things as an active living thing on Earth.

Missing the greenery

Living in the heart of Southern California, it can get tough for me this time of year. The heat of summer has about dried up just about any living thing, the crowds have fully inundated the coastline, and fuel prices are up (which isn't good when you drive a Jeep). I'm missing the intense greenery and all-out beauty that is Santa Barbara during the springtime. This was the Lumberjack hanging around during a camp trip to El Cap in the middle of an exceptionally green spring.

I'm Off

Santa Barbara bound (however not by train this time).

Heading north

I'm really looking forward to this upcoming weekend. On a whim I've decided to take a 4 day surf/camp/explore/soul search trip to Santa Barbara. I've got the Jeep loaded down with surfboards, cameras, wetsuits (I'll need them), and is fueled up and ready to go. Hoping for some swell (i.e absolutely any waves), and good conditions. Stars should be epic.

Inside Tubes

While up visiting some friends in Santa Barbara, we spent a lot of time hiking around and exploring some of the areas around town and their campuses. This particular tunnel under a bridge ended up being a highlight for sure.

Beatles quotes, surfers, peace signs; you name it, covered the walls. It was pretty rad.

Northbound on the 101

This was home for a few days on a recent surf trip up to Santa Barbara. Waves were small, but perfect for logging. The all day glass-offs, solo dawn patrols, heavy kelp beds, offshore winds, and foggy mornings with sun through the late afternoon and into the clear nights made life feel far removed from the crowded line-ups of Southern California.

This is the inside of my Jeep turned bed on a recent surf trip up to Santa Barbara. Turns out with all my seats folded down and my spare tire stashed under the car I can fit an air mattress in there and sleep pretty comfortably. The bonus was the view of the stars out of my car windows.
